Hi everyone! Today, I’m going to share with you a good experience about shopping. Last month, I went with my sister to an important shopping area in Barcelona near Plaza Catalunya and Portal de l’Àngel street.
We didn’t need to buy anything special but we started to go into different well-known shops. In the first shop there were different clothes with great discounts. We tried on one beautiful dress, it cost 100 eur but it was 50% off. It was a bargain and it suited me very well. We both decided to buy it but each in a different colour.
After that, we went into an important shoe shop. The shop assistant told us that there were different sandals with large discounts. My sister tried on one pair and it fitted her well, she decided to buy it. When she paid for it she discovered that these shoes hadn’t got a discount. We were surprised when the shop assistant applied a discount.
We finished the afternoon buying a lot of cheaper brand clothes and we were attended by nice shop assistants.
We thought that this afternoon was amazing because we were able to buy bargains of good brand clothes. We came to the conclusion that this only happens once in a life time.
I am going to explain an interesting encounter with a stranger. My husband and I went to Lisbon for three days in summer six years ago. We were staying in a hotel situated in the outskirts. For this reason we had to take public transport to visit the city centre.
On the second day we decided to visit the city centre, full of narrow streets, typical cafés, etc. It was a wonderful day but it finished with an interesting encounter.
We had dinner and afterwards we needed to take the train to go back to the hotel. We were lost because we couldn’t find the train station and we were walking around the same empty streets for a half an hour.
Suddenly we saw a strange woman, immediately my husband asked her where the train station was. The girl said the train station was close by. My husband understood that the train didn’t work at this time and he started an argument with this woman because we knew that the train station was open. We started laughing because from the beginning of the conversation I had understood the meaning of close as near. In the end we tried to explain the real meaning to my husband.
Finally, we were able to take the train and every time my husband and I remembered this story we can’t stop laughing. But we learned an important thing when you visit another country and you have to speak English the pronunciation is very important to understand other people.
Many people today don’t just have a mobile phone, they have a smartphone like an Phone or a Blackberry. But is it a great invention? I think there are both advantages and disadvantages.
The first advantage is that people who have an iPhone or a Blackberry can access information immediately. For example, they can read and write emails, read newspapers online, look up any topic, can do video conferences, play,…
Secondly, I think that a smartphone like a Blackberry is a good innovation in the business world. Nowadays, it is not necessary to work in an office because if you have a Blackberry you can answer calls and emails wherever you want.
But on the other hand, I think there are people that can’t use these smartphones moderately, they don’t disconnect and they also have social problems. People of this kind use their smartphones all day long and when they are with a group of friends they are looking the screen, chatting, playing, reading, etc. They disconnect from what is around them.
Thirdly, workers with a blackberry have to work overtime because they can check emails at any time. Sometime this is a problem because they can’t disconnect from work on holiday or days off. If something happens when the worker is not in the office the boss and his/ her colleagues try to contact her through this blackberry.
In conclusion, having a smartphone like an iPhone or a Blackberry is a great invention for people but the important thing is how you use them.

Dear Ms Smith,
Last Monday, 23 March, I ordered a dress and a pack of towels from your online store (order reference PP897608). I usually buy different products through your website and I know the conditions perfectly. Your website says that products in stock are delivered in two weeks.
Three weeks passed, and I only received the pack of towels but the dress didn’t arrive. I noticed that both payments had been taken from my credit card. I phoned your customer service line, and the person that I spoke to, Rachel, was unhelpful. She said that the dress was sold out and she didn’t know when it would be available again. Furthermore, she couldn’t refund me the money that had been taken from my card.
My family have bought a lot of things from you over the years and we have always had good service. I am sure you will be able to resolve this situation in a satisfactory way.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Dear Sir / Madam,
I am writing to apply for a job as a teacher of children from 6 to 12 in your school.
I am a qualified primary school teacher and I also have a qualification in the specialisation of children with learning problems. So, I can teach children from 3 to 12 as a specialist of children with learning problems. I have been working in a private religious school in Hospitalet for 2 years.
Apart from this, I have a degree in tourism. This enabled me to learn languages, gain experience in teamwork and dealing with people. I worked in this sector for seven years but I know that being a teacher is my perfect job.
I speak English fluently (Intermediate level) and I am patient, warm, creative and I also have initiative.
I attach my CV.
I look forward to hearing from you
- Boys and girls both learn better in single-sex schools.
There are single-sex schools that promote this idea because it has good reasons to do so. For example, these schools think boys are better at Maths and Science than girls. In addition, those schools think girls are better at languages than boys. If you work hard at these areas children in single-sex schools have better results.
In my opinion, I completely disagree. Children learn better if you mix boys and girls in the same school. The challenge of teaching is that children have to learn from each other and learn how to live together.
- Private schools are usually better than state schools.
Nowadays, it is true because the government is investing money to improve education around the country. I have a good example to show this: all state schools have one digital board per class but in the most private schools this doesn’t happen. I also think that our government give IT resources but they don’t provide the human resources needed to develop this technology in our system education.
My flat is situated in Sant Joan Despí, which is one of the most important towns near Barcelona. It is a cosy and sunny 70-square-metre flat in the centre of the town.
The flat is on the second floor of a new building with a lift. It has wooden floors and Wi-fi internet. The flat has a spacious balcony with a washing machine, drier and a beautiful area with table and chairs to relax with friends in summer. It has three bedrooms, one bathroom, a well-equipped kitchen and an perfect dining room. The one large bedroom has a spacious wardrobe. The other two bedrooms are smaller than the other one. One of them is a spacious study and the other one has a single bed and wardrobe. The kitchen is large and has a small table to have breakfast and dinner at. The living room has a circular table with comfortable chairs. The sofa is in front of the large television.
This flat is near several kinds of public transport that you can take and go to Barcelona very quickly. The neighbourhood has a public library, sport centre, restaurants, bars, market, parks and shops. It is quite calm at the weekends and it’s perfect for families because there are a lot of places where you can go and enjoy yourselves with kids.
The flat is ideal for a couple and family with one kid because it has spacious bedrooms for each and the neighbourhood offers good facilities to enjoy life.
